Students - ASB Policies

Announcements

Anyone wishing to publish an announcement must submit it on the appropriate form obtained in the ASB Office in the 400 wing or in the Public Information mailbox in the Faculty House. Notices must be brief and must be signed by a faculty moderator. All announcements must be submitted to the ASB Office by 3:00 p.m. the day before they are to be announced. Administrator announcements and athletic games, practices and event cancellations are the only exceptions to the requirement. These announcements will be made after lunch. Whenever possible, they will be made at the beginning of the block.

All posters and other notices concerning school business and events must be approved before they can be posted on campus. The Activities Director must approve ASB, class, club and organization posters. The Athletic Director must approve all athletic team posters. The Assistant Principal, Student Services, must approve all other posters. Approved posters must be placed only on the glass of the academic wing doors on and poster panels in the hallways. Posters may not be placed on the glass windows or doors of the main library entrance nor on school walls. Tape may not be placed on a painted surface. The classroom teacher must approve posters in individual classrooms and in the library. Posters must be removed within 24 hours after the advertised event. Stickers are never permitted, including during election campaigns.

Dances and Social Events

Dances and other social events are sponsored by the ASB or organizations of the ASB. At any such event, students are expected to act in keeping with Christian rules of conduct. The proposed program and date of a social event must be approved by the Assistant Principal, Student Services through the Activities Director before the event is held. Groups may not advertise events until approved.

Dances and Social Events

  1. On campus dances are open to all Bishop Amat students. Juniors and seniors are permitted a guest pass for one friend per Bishop Amat Dance, when announced. Although freshmen and sophomores may attend on-campus dances, they are never eligible for guest passes.
  2. Students must arrive at the dance before 9:00 p.m. and may not leave before 11:00 p.m. without phone contact from the parent to the Assistant Principal, Student Services, prior to the dance. Seniors, only, may leave a school dance at 10:30 p.m.

Off-Campus Dances/Formals

  1. Seniors and juniors may attend both dances and are eligible to obtain a guest pass for one friend per formal dance.
  2. A sophomore may attend the Winter Formal, if and only if, the sophomore is accompanied by another Bishop Amat student who is at least a sophomore.
  3. A sophomore may attend the Prom, if and only if, a Bishop Amat junior or senior invites the sophomore.
  4. Freshmen are not eligible to attend formal dances.
  5. Arrival at a dance should be no later than 9:00 p.m.

Guest Passes

  1. The use of a Guest Pass is a privilege, not a right, reserved for juniors and seniors in certain situations.
  2. The Assistant Principal, Student Services, approves Guest Pass applications and reserves the right to deny passes on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Bishop Amat reserves the right to regulate the appearance of guests. Guests of Bishop Amat students are required to dress in accordance with the school philosophy. Guests who are wearing items or who are in possession of items, which are listed as restricted in the Dress Code section of this handbook will not be admitted. Guests may not wear bandannas or body rings other than earrings. Eyebrow, lip, nose, and other facial rings are not permitted. Guests may not have visible tattoos or have chains hanging from their wallets. Hats of any kind are not permitted unless designated as part of a dance theme by the ASB Office.
  4. Students who have left Bishop Amat for discipline reasons are not eligible to attend a dance, or any other Bishop Amat function, as a guest.

Dance Restrictions

Bishop Amat does not allow any type of dancing which may bring bodily harm to the students, regardless of the type of dance. Therefore, slam dancing, lifting, and similar activities are not allowed. Likewise, dancing that is sexually suggestive is not allowed.

Identification Cards

Each student is issued a Student Body Identification Card containing the student's photograph. The card must be carried with the student to verify enrollment at Bishop Amat High School. It is also required for checking out library books, using library computers, picking up dance pictures, and gaining admission to athletic games, school dances and other events. ID cards are not transferable. A student who uses a card belonging to another student is subject to disciplinary action and possible loss of future privileges. In the event that an ID card is lost, the student may request a replacement. To obtain a replacement, a nominal fee must be paid to the cashier in the Main Office and the fee slip, which is the student's proof of purchase, can be taken to the Assistant Principal, Student Services, who will make the replacement card.
